University of Connecticut

Access Management Plan

Storrs, Connecticut

The University made a commitment to create a more pleasant, sustainable, pedestrian oriented, and accessible campus and a set of reasonable compromises was needed between the goals of the campus plan (for pedestrian movement, building placement, green space, and absence of vehicles in some areas) and the realities of the activities that are necessary for the daily operations of the institution. The University desired a campus-wide access management plan covering on-campus deliveries, services, and vendor deliveries with web access for campus departments and all vendors serving the University for building-by-building instructions, maps, and information. Finally, the President and the COO at UConn created a Campus Appearance Committee, which wholeheartedly supported complete adoption of the Access Management Plan and recommended that priority funding, in the amount of $250,000 be made available to advance the implementation of the Access Management Plan.

Critical Analysis of Parking and Transit Alternatives

Lawrence, Kansas

During the comprehensive planning effort at KU, there emerged two schools of thought about how to approach the future of parking and transportation. One school favored continuing to build proximate garages on campus, and the other favored no more garages but an expanded transit system. The Chancellor retained CMA, a firm with both transit and parking experience, to review the issues and provide an unbiased assessment of how the University should proceed.
